Lost In Translation?

If you are not Bill Murray or Scarlett Johansson it's not cool being stuck in a place where you do not speak the language. That location can be a foreign country, an unfamiliar avenue, or sometimes even your own apartment at the time when a new lawn or cleaning team arrives.
What do you do when you come across someone who did not study English at school? You could try using your arms to state your position on each issue. But cultures are not always similar, circumstances differ and thus the body language do not always help. If you are good at scanning for words you can obtain yourself a mini-dictionary for situations of the kind. And yet, a paper linguistic assistant could be slow to get by. Or you might opt for a more modern and convenient solution. Like having an electronic Spanish translator. A seemingly impossible job of communication in a tongue unknown to you might be manageable with the assistance of a handheld electronic device! (more…)
